The Grammys Gots No Love for Real Hip Hop:That Aint Nothing New

 

 

Did any of you hip hop fans watch the Grammys Sunday night? Well, let me say that I did not actually watch the Grammys live, but I did record it on my DVR. So after I worked the night shift, I came home Monday morning and watched the show people call "The biggest night for music." I did not expect a MTV,B.E.T type of award show.(We are talking about the Grammys). What I did expect is a white rapper winning best rap album or best rap song(whatever they call it these days..lol). It never fails when you are dealing with the Grammys. I have posted on many social media websites on how the Grammys play as the "majority" of  music listeners who vote on what they consider the best in all genres of music of  that year. There are not too many people who are familiar with Kendrick Lamar's talent or music. To say it's not fair that Kendrick did not win Best Rap Album could be argued. But lets not blame Macklemore who went out on a limb in his post-Grammy-accepting interview and clearly said that Kendrick had the best Rap Album of 2013.

But it's not that simple Macklemore, and you know this. lol

To me, I think the Grammys will always pick an artist in Rap that does not appear to be too aggressive to the other artists of rock, pop, country, jazz etc. There were more white rappers in the game before Macklemore actually took off(google Yelawolf,Machine Gun Kelly,Iggy Azalea..etc). You see that none of those guys were nominated.(I wonder why?hmmmm)

I read a post by the homie Emcee Logic who gave his insight on the whole "so-called" conspiracy.

I want to share it with you guys. Logic wrote:

 

Alright. Here's my take on Maclemore and the grammys....its a lengthy ramble. Brace yourselves...

 

 

I love hiphop...like, real hiphop. Not just a few rappers that got lyrics, but the culture, the history, the pioneers, the Zulu nation era, the evolution, the de evolution, the geniuses, the idiots, the DJs, writers, breakers emcees. the converasation, the story tellers, The peace love unity and having fun foundational, culturaly rich, invented by the poverish 4 elements plus 5... KRS added true HIPHOP. Everyone is welcome. Even if you're terrible. Somewhere, somebody will love you if you're consistent enough...if even for just a moment, someone will.

So I say that to say, I never cared about the Grammys...it has nothing to do with what I do, or with hiphop culture. The same ppl who issue these awards are the same people who don't and never have understood us. So why would you expect them to understand our culture just because they decide to give an award out?

Look, Maclemore isn't a "bad" rapper. I just don't listen to his music. Nothing he raps about appeals to me, my surroundings, my upbringing and what concerns myself or my people.. but that's ok. His lane is different. There's a whole lot of suburban white kids, and all kinds of other people who love him and are inspired by him.and I think that's great. Is his music hiphop music? Ehh, sure.let's be fair, He's a dude rapping about his struggle concerns and concepts respectively so. So let him live. We should know by now the Grammys been on some bullshit. Nas been selling records for 20 years and never won a single one of them. Point and case. Like I said, the people giving out these awards are not part of hiphop culture, are not contributors and they do not identify with us. So 9 times out of 10, you'll be met with disappointment if expecting anything more..

Should Kendrick have won it? Sure. His album was excellent, hes a platinum selling artist, and his work ethic and inflewence has been phenomenal since it was released. But hey, all the greats get robbed right? I'm exited to see how this incident will translate lyricly for him. More fuel for the fire I think.

So quit crying Hiphop! The Grammy never gave a F&%k about us and won't start now. Stop looking to the weirdo awards to hand you a statue. Were hiphopers. Stop acting like bishes. Cut the sensationalism out. Who.cares if the guy won over your favorite rapper...go smoke some weed and listen to MF Doom records...you'll get over it.

The Lox Speak Out About New York Hip Hop-Bout Damn Time Somebody Did!!!

 

 

You guys ever see the blockbuster movie "Independence Day" Starring Will Smith?? Do you remember the drunk guy who claimed he was abducted by aliens but no one seemed to believe his wild stories? This story about New York Hip hop becoming non-existent makes me quote what that drunk guy said to his son when the Aliens attacked the cities,.." i told you, aint I been saying it for all this time!"lol...

Well enough with that. I just read on AllHipHop.com that the Lox claimed that Hot 97's program director Ebro is one of the reasons why New York Hip Hop is falling. I agree 100%. This goes to Trinidad James saying that the south run New York City. There is some truth to that assumption.

I remember going to New York city in the 90's and hearing Junior Mafia's "Player' Anthem" for the very first time on the subway. The fact of being in New York City for the first time was one thing, but the joy of hearing some of the dopest hip hop earlier than I would have heard it in Richmond, Va was the most exciting part. That is what New York Hip hop was to me. Home of the Exclusives..

But these days, New Yorkers are taking the dummy approach into making music. Shout out to artists such as The Lox, Troy Ave, Maffew Ragazino Sr, Joey Bad A$$, just to name a few who are continuing to make classic hip hop records. You know, sometimes I find myself on youtube watching those Smack Rap Battles just to hear something fresh and new(and I hate those battles, too many "i'll shoot you in the face" references.)

Special shout out to The Lox who have the balls to go on Hot 97 and tell them people,"you are the reason why New York Hip hop is dying..so now what!".lol.. #GoLive

Yo, This is a great week for hip hop. First I post the Eminem video, now this.

A lot of people are undecided whether they still rock with Kanye West or not. I'm one of them. After his last album, I wasn't sure if Kanye West was going to give us that College Dropout/Graduation type hip hop again.

So, I come home from work,(in the am) get by boo boo ready for school. I cut on the computer and visit one of my favorite sites, WorldStar. I'm strolling down the videos and I watch the Jimmy Kimmel/fake chick video who twerked herself into fire.(That was a stunt woman by the way, Jimmy Kimmel set the whole thing up, 9 million views in a week. Things that make you go Hmmmmm..S/N welcome back Arsenio!!!) Anyway, so I see the video with Kanye performing on Jimmy Fallon's show with Charlie Wilson. Clicked on it, and was amazed. He dissed Ray J too.lol

I never heard the song before. Maybe it's on the new album that I never bothered to listen to. Either way, the record is dope. Enjoy #GoLive

 

Video of The Month: Eminem "Berzerk"(Produced by Rick Rubin)

 

 

Good day to all the heads in hip hop..This month's video of the week comes from one of RocDaddy's(writing in third person,of course.lol) Top 5 Most Influential Emcees in Hip Hop. The list includes (in no particular order):Big Daddy Kane, Notorious B.I.G, Redman, Q-tip & a guy by the name of Eminem. There are tons of hip hop lovers across the world who either hate or love Marshall Mathers. I've became a fan of Eminem when he independently release an EP where he had a song about murdering his child's mother on it(of course it was strictly entertainment.) The homie Danja Mowf played Eminem for me for the first time back in the early 90's and his introduction for the rising emcee was, "man this white dude name M&M is like so dope, I think Dr. Dre is about to sign him."The rest is hip hop history.

 

Let us fast forward to the present. Eminem has sold millions upon millions of records in his career and is also responsible for the success of a lot of Platinum hip hop artists, one of them goes by the name of 50 Cent. The one thing I love about Eminem is that he spits about what he knows. Did I mention that this dude gets more than a $1 of every CD sold??(Frank Sinatra of Hip Hop). Lets forget about the fact that he is does have money, but doesn't rap about it. Lets forget about the fact that he does live in a Mansion, but doesn't rap about it. Lets also forget about the fact that he can go head to head with ANY emcee on the planet, and DOES rap about that. I want the Go Live Radio audience to know that Eminem is and will always be HIP HOP. Respect him.

 

The new video is called "Berzerk" Produced by Hip Hop Pioneer Rick Rubin(You guys heard of Mr. Rubin, right. If not, google him..geesh.) In the video, Em takes us back to raw hip hop via Beastie Boys. In all honesty, Beastie Boys paved the way for white dudes to spit. The video includes cameos from Kendrick Lamar, Kid Rock, Rick Rubin and the members of Slaughterhouse(who are signed to Shady Records,but you know that...you better know that!!). The record is something you will not hear from any artist who claims they represent hip hop, including myself.lol This just goes to show you, that hip hop is not dead. And to add, that the President of the United States of America is Black & one of the best emcees alive is White. Go figure. Enjoy the video. #GoLive

Surprise,Surprise, Surprise-RocDaddy Sings

On a previous show week's back, Go Live Radio's Host Lil Roc aka RocDaddy promised to spit a verse after each show to Co-hosts Little Girl Wonder & Dj One to prove to them that he still got it.

In keeping with his promise, Roc decided to flip the script and give the Go Live Radio Crew a brief snippet of one of the records he is recording for his upcoming mixtape "The Greatest Stories Told."
