Last night my homie & business partner, Runny Ray, hit me up at around 630pm to see what I was getting into later on. I mentioned to him about the Epic Fest Concert going down at The Camel(Richmond,Va) that night, so Ray wanted to check it out. We arrived at the venue at exactly 11:25pm. Once we walked up, we noticed a host of mcs & b-boys standing outside. I got excited. I greeted the homies, Kleph Dollaz(album coming soon), Joey Gallo, Nickelus F, Ivory Snow, Radio B., Michael Millions(new video dropping soon), Noah-O(I Got It video on MtvJams),etc.
We got to the door, and I told the homie who checks I.D's that I was with Go Live Radio, so he let me & Runny in.(thanks Noah) The place was PACKED. I've been to The Camel about 4 times prior, and I had never seen it that crowded. As soon as I got around the folks who crowded the entrance, I saw my 4080 Radio Partner, Sean Pea ( www.4080radio.com approaching) standing with Realizm Clothing's Keith Spain. On stage, was an artist who goes by the name of Artik Freeze. This was the first time that I've seen Artik Freeze perform. He did a good job with stage presence & definitely had the audience on his side. Honestly, I had to ask Dj Jeff C ,"Who is this dude?",because I saw that the audience knew alot of his lyrics. There were some technical difficulties with his set, but over all, Artik Freeze did his thing.
Next up was the homie Noah-O's set. With Dj Jeff C as his show Dj, Noah did his thing from start to finish. He had the whole Charged Up Ent Family on stage with him, and when I say the whole team, I'm not exaggerating. It feels good to see an artist get that much support, but with that many people on stage, something is bound to happen. Noah O did a couple freestyles over beats like Dr. Dre's Deep Cover & a song with Radio B. Noah has a video in high rotation on MTVJams for his ITunes hit song "I Got It-featuring J-Nero & Streetz Deep", so it was only right for him to do that record last. The crowd was ready for it. Dj Jeff C & Noah was on time with the intro for "I Got it." When J-Nero started his verse, the music died. This happened because of the crowd of Charged Up affiliates on stage bumping into the equipment.(Trust me, back in the days doing SupaFriendz & D.U shows, we had our share of "a bunch of n*ggas on stage" stepping on cords and sh*t). Dj Jeff C figured out the technical situation, so Noah & the Crew started "I Got It" over. The crowd still hype as they were 5 minutes prior. Thirty seconds in the second try, the music dies again. Same reason. Some Charged up affiliates took the hint and got off stage, then Noah got the chance to finish up the record. The audience was still riding with him through all the technical turmoil. Now that's love.
Next up to perform was the artist Ivory Snow from Connecticut. Ivory visited Go Live Radio in February during our "The Elements of a dope Hip Hop Performance" month. One word describes Snow's performance....Wonderful!!! Ivory Snow is my kind of artist. Dude makes beats. spits hot 16's & can sing a melody or two. The highlight of his performance was a record about "f*cking with the lights on." (my kind of song..lol) Joining him on stage for that record was his homie Conrizzle, who also had a solo set later on that night. Ivory even uses a mic stand during his set, which alot of mcs rarely use.( matter of fact, I probably start using the mic stand when I do another show) Over all, Ivory Snow had one of the dopest performances at Epic Fest.
The artist Fam-lay(Star Trek Records) was the headline artist for the night. Repping the 757, Fam-Lay has been a favorite "hometeam artist" in VA for years. His energy wasn't that impressive to write alot about, but his celebrity status made up for the audience's response to him. There were alot of video cameras in the building during most of the artists sets, but Fam-Lay's performance definitely got the most visual attention. Fam-Lay's set was filled with alot of dope songs old & new. He waited close to the end to do his hit, "Rock & Roll,"which erupted the crowd.
After Fam-lay's set, I went outside to get some fresh air. There were more artists scheduled to perform(Nicklelus F & Conrizzle), but being that it was 1:41AM, I decided to call it a night. Over all the Epic Fest Concert was a huge success & I can not wait until the next one. Who knows, maybe Lil Roc & Mr.80Foe will bless the stage.:)
Shout out to Charged Up Entertainment, The Camel, the artists who performed & VA hip hop as a whole. We here dawg & ain't going no where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
