DMX disses Drake & Most Of The Rappers Of Today

I was listening to the Breakfast Club Show this morning and was very impressed on the interview that they did with rapper DMX. X was very direct(well kind of..lol) on every issue that tabloids and bloggers wrote about the 2-time Platinum artist. Even though his appearance might seem a little "junky-ish," you still have to respect his opinion about Rick Ross & Drake. I mean, DMX is one of the most respected mcs out of New York City. Despite his drug addiction and arrest record, he is hip hop. Shout out to the BreakFast Club crew for keeping it real with him and not sugar coating any question..

R.I.P Don Cornelius 1936-2012

We are all devastated on the death of Soul Train Founder Don Cornelius. I remember watching Soul Train every Saturday on ABC back in the 80's-90's. The most disturbing part about Mr. Cornelius's untimely death is that it happened on the very first day of Black History Month. He is definitely a legend in the Black Urban Music Culture. Alot of Black artists couldn't get booked on shows like American BandStand and such...so I say thank you Don for giving our culture a chance to be seen & heard. In the words of The Late great Heavy D, "American Music & Grammy Awards...yall aite...BUT I GOT SOUL!!!!!!!"

VIBE is extremely sad to report Soul Train legend, Don Cornelius, was found dead at earlier this morning. The longtime host of the seminal music program's body was discovered at his Sherman Oaks, Ca home at 4 AM this morning.
Law Enforcement told TMZ Cornelius died from a gun shot wound to the head, which they believe was self inflicted. Don was 75-years old at the time of his death.
Cornelius served as host of Soul Train from its debut in 1971 to 1993. The show aired until 2006. He was loved by many and helped introduce the world to a number of classic artists.

The Logic Behind Jay-Z & Beyonce's Baby Girl Blue Ivy

Whats up world. Happy new year to you all. Well, I decided in 2012 to give you more blogs than I did in 2011. The first official Go Live Radio Blog of 2012 is dedicated to the birth of Jay-Z & Beyonce's newborn baby girl Blue Ivy Carter, just born a couple days ago. (Congrats!) I heard Jay-Z rented out the hospital for a reported amount of 1.5 Million dollars(why???). Beyonce released a statement saying, "She has Jay's nose & lips."(interesting)


Now here's my logic behind all this. I don't personally believe that Beyonce was actually pregnant. I believe she used the fact of being pregnant as a "publicity stunt" to generate positive attention & album sales. Now some of you non-reading, consumer mutha f*ckas will say, "how do you know she was faking it?" or "why would she fake it?".
There are many reasons why she would fake her pregnancy. For one, African-American women who conceives a child during their "prime years"normally don't keep that fantastic shape of theirs. But we are talking about Jay & Bey. They have the $$ to get Beyonce's body back to its original form if she gains stretch marks or an extra stomach.lol. I believe that she did not want to end up looking like her mother(see pic)

Another reason why I believe she faked her pregnancy is the fact that she is a celebrity. What would be the best picture for the world to see if you are a celebrity & pregnant? A picture of your bare stomach, that's what.  Remember when Alicia Keys was pregnant?? The public had seen her out with her bare stomach looking so beautiful. And who would look more beautiful pregnant than one of the best R&B performers of our generation, Beyonce. With that being said, why was there no bare stomach pics taken during the whole pregnancy?hmmmmm.. 
According to certain media outlets like MediaTakeout & TMZ, it was believed that Beyonce & Jay had a surrogate mother to carry their daughter, Blue Ivy. Maybe.

The point that I'm trying to make is, whether she gave birth is not the issue. Celebrities should not be looked at as being beyond "human." With that being said, Beyonce should of treated her pregnancy as any other celebrity would have. By her not doing it that way, created doubts about her quick pregnancy. She is not royalty and I love her! But I think her pregnancy was more than just a secret. It was scripted. #GoLive

Soul Train Awards 2011-It's Just Not The Same Awards Show It Was years ago

Before there was the Source Awards, B.E.T Awards,etc.etc, The Soul Train Awards was the most anticipated awards show that we(African Americans) looked forward to watching every year. If it wasn't for my daughter(YaYa is a big Mindless Behavior fan..lol),I would not have known that the 2011 Soul Train Awards(courtesy of B.E.T) show was broad casted last night on the Centric channel. Usually on Sunday nights I'm watching Sunday Night Football(Steelers Vs Chiefs..which was actually a good game) & then I click on the DVR to watch "Real Housewives of Atlanta"(Kandi looks like she got the "nicki minaj" butt special surgery..lol). But on this particular Sunday night, I was watching a series called "Torchwood" on Starz OnDemand(great show!)
Once I finished watching Episode 104 of Torchwood, I decided to skip "Real Housewives" & save it for the next day & see what the Soul Train Awards was all about. Boy Was I disappointed.
I was glad to see them give out Legend Awards to Gladys Knight & Earth,Wind & Fire. I wasn't too excited about the choice of singers they used to sing these legends greatest hits.(Tamar Braxton singing Gladys Knight? Debra Lee & Stephen Hill should have both hands tied behind their back and be pimped smacked 10 times a piece by Bubba Knight & the rest of the Pips for that decision.lol).
Miguel looked super gay(probably on purpose..hmmmm) & the Soul Train Scramble Board skits were so corny.
The ONLY highlight of the show was Cedric The Entertainer doing what he does best. I only wish he had longer to do his thing. It was so much cut & pasting going on, like whoever star's name was called to receive their award, you see a camera shot of them getting up out of their seat and then BOOM their own stage.lol.
The Heavy D tribute was touching. There were too many rappers on stage to do it though.(Goodie Mob had no business doing Heavy D tribute..and I f*cks with Goodie!!)
Over all, The Soul Train Awards Show of 2011 was one of those shows that makes me say, "I love my MTV!"(Sad, but so true...) #GoLive

Go Live Radio Album Review: Kleph Dollaz "Square In The Circle"

The only bad thing I could say about Kleph Dollaz "Square In The Circle" album is..it's not long enough!-lil roc

I had scheduled emcee/producer Kleph Dollaz to appear on Go Live Radio this past saturday to talk about his album "Square In The Circle" that dropped on 9-11. Due to personal situations beyond control, that did not happen. But, I can do something better. I can give you my opinion on this dope album(oops, i just did..huh?lol).
Now, you might ask your self,"Why should I give a damn on what Lil Roc thinks about an album?" Let me tell you why.

First and formost, I am a hip hop fan. So if you dont know anything about Grandmaster Flash,Run Dmc, Whodini, Big Daddy Kane, Marley Marl,Krs-One, Tribe Called Quest, etc. etc, then you shouldn't value my opinion becasue you just dont get it. I know hip hop music. Kleph Dollaz is HIP HOP MUSIC!!


I can't give you an accurate album review unless I start from the begginning. The INTRO takes you to a place whether you are driving on highway 95(north or south), sitting in the room playing PlayStation with the TV on mute, or chilling in the den smoking some "good", listening. Your mind is clear. It's all about the music. If you are familiar with some of  Kleph's work, then you will probally get excited listening to the INTRO like I did.


Next is the record CAUGHT UP IN A RUT feat. Shawn Chappelle.(yal know I love me sum Shawn Chappelle..lol). This record starts off with a disco-ish feel until the drums hit, then Kleph spits:"Life has a funny way of dealing them cards, when it seem so easy, it's especially hard: only god knows you plan, your destiny gets in your hand: stand tall(tall) but be a man..."..Those few lines lets you know, this is some spiritual hop hop. The music knocks. Ms. Chappelle completes it with her soulful, melodic voice. Mane, this is hip hop!!

TESTIMONIAL HIGH & WORSHIP feat. Tamir Rock & Joey Gallo are songs I got the honor to peep out before the album dropped. TESTIMONIAL HIGH beat pattern is so sick!(sick meaning stupid dope!!..lol) Kleph's flow on this record shows his ability to ride any track like a true Emcee should. love it. WORSHIP is one of the first tracks Kleph did a video to. (shout out to Monsee..mane, im trying to get at you dawg.) That video was Go Live Radio's Video Of The Month a few months back(scroll down to revisit). Tamir Rock & Joey Gallo(what up Gallo!!..you album review is next..omg!!!!) lyrically murdered this Kleph produced track. Dope record.

There are 2 skits on the album. The first skit consists of a young lady singing some spiritual lyrics.(WHO IS CHEYENNE LEVENE???OMG!!!)..This skit had an old record sound effect added to make a classic statement. Beautiful. The second Skit is a sermon done by Kleph. Very moving. Definitely needed to be done. period.


Next up is SPEAK THE NAME.. This record starts off with audio of Kleph live at concert where he says, "alot of cats come up in here & they saying alot of nothing!"(I agree 100%. Thats why I don't cosign to some of these cat's music. real talk) .The music starts. You hear a female voice(Shawn Chappelle, i know that voice anywhere)singing with the music in a harmonic way. So dope. It's so hard to put in words. You'll hear it!


N2U feat. Cheyenne Levene put me in the mind of a old school record with a Cherelle like melody. (yal remember R&B singer Cherelle,..Alexander Oneal, B.E.T Awards..good looking lady who sung that song with the crooked teeth dude?thats for the young bucks who dont know.lol) This is one of the most laid back records on here. Good music. Ms. Cheyenne did her thing. ( Yo Kleph, she's dope!).


Now there are some records on here that fall in the catergory of "This Beat Is So Dope, That It Aint Fair!". Those songs are: A LIL BIT, GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY feat. Micheal Millions & Radio B, STRANGELAND feat. Noah O,DELIVER US feat. Illa Scorsese & AGAPE LUV feat. Shawn Chappelle & Lonnie B. AGAPE LUV is my favorite record on here. I cried when I heard it. real talk. Not tears of sadness, but tears of  happiness. The elements & words on this track was monumental. And after listening to the "This Beat Is So Dope, That It Aint Fair" records,along with SQUARE IN THE CIRCLE & AWESOME,  I was convinced that Kleph Dollaz "Square In The Circle" is a must have if you enjoy music. Now notice I said, "enjoy"music. Not like music,but enjoy music. This is for the heads. Stop playing & treat yourself to real hip hop!!!! #GoLIVE

Whats good everybody....It's been a minute since I wrote a blog about anything. There is alot of things going on in my personal life. Its kind of hard to be writing blogs everyday about hip hop, music, drama, or whatever when there are millions of folks who do it regularly. So I only come on here to talk about things that concerns Go Live Radio. 
Okay, I've been thinking about making some changes for Go Live Radio. Stay tune for details..
I have a new mixtape coming with legendary VA dee jay Ramon(If you know about mixtapes in the VA area, then you know about Ramon..no Dj can touch Ramon mixtapes....NO DJ!!!!). Go Live Radio Question Of The Month: Who is Really The King Of VA HipHop?

I asked twitter this question 24 hours ago and I got one response that I have to repost. It was from VA producer NameBrand(@iNameBrand) who said, and I quote:"I don't think we have one yet"...

That was the best answer given and the only correct answer accepted. If this was a question on any exam or test, that answer would be the most that makes sense. The title "King" is a dominating ranking. We have had so many emcees,writers & producers from VA who have accomplished success in the hip hop game.  Pharell, Timbaland,Pusha T,Trey Songz even Missy Elliott(lol) could say they are the King Of VA, and no one should have a problem with that.

I ask this question because the homie Skillz did a freestyle over the Kanye/JayZ record "Otis" instrumental where he said that he was the "King Of Va." Okay..so what!! If the people, I just named, had a problem with him saying that, it would have been address. I've heard alot of local rappers in the city(Richmond..home of the copy cats & self proclaimed "super stars" who feel they are bigger than life because the people in their hood like their music) who claim that Skillz is talking to them when he said those words.

Okay, lets take a moment and talk about the homie Red Dummy (aka Red Rum), who signed with Dj Khaled's We The Best Label a year ago. Rum, has released mixtapes where he clearly says that HE'S the King of Va & NOBODY had nothing negative to say about it. Is it the fact that no one had nothing to say to Rum because he's from the streets of Northside, Richmond?(Waiting for a response as if I am talking to someone..lol)...Maybe so.

Skillz, as far as Richmond cats go, is the only emcee with a track record. So if dude wants to say he's the King Of VA, why is it a problem to yal? Even I,Lil Roc, have done enough to say:"I'm the King of VA!", but I don't.(That's why I call myself the Mayor of Richmond Hip hop..lol) But still, who are we to say who is the King of VA Hip Hop and who is not, if there isn't one? NameBrand said, "there isn't one yet",which means there is time for someone to take the necessary steps and make this into a reality.

The point of this blog is to let these rappers know that just because you do rap, that doesn't mean you will make it in the industry. Quit with the egos and make f*cking music. Leave Skillz alone. Leave the drama in the streets. Skillz tells me all the time that he doesn't mind these cats coming at him with the diss songs because he calls it the "Willow Lawn 6." Now the Willow Lawn 6 is the Greater Richmond Transit Company Bus route that runs basically up & down Downtown Richmond(Broad Street)..

Skillz said:"Mane, I'm not worried about these Richmond Cats coming at me. It's like they careers is on the Willow Lawn 6. It goes up & down broad street, but never leaves Richmond!"..I agree totally. #GoLive

1st Annual 80's-90's ThrowBack Party-When Music Was Interesting

Remember the time when you use to wake up every tuesday morning to rush down to the local record store to cop the newest cassette tape or cd? Remember that good feeling you use to have when you got back home with that new Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, BBD, Tribe Called Quest or Salt & Pepa single, and get the chance to hear it on your parent's house speakers? Remember reading the credits as you listen to see who written the song or produced the track? It seems so long ago when urban music was "interesting". The 80's & 90's were the BEST years of hip hop, rap & rhythm & blues music. People who grew up in the 80's/90's have no reason to want to go out to the clubs in 2011. The most common excuse is: "I dont really want to go to club anymore because that crowd,these days are a little too rowdy." We, along with Lee & Foe Ent. have a solution for that..

We are calling it, "The 1st Annual 80's-90's Throwback Party" on Aug 13th, 2011. Time 10pm-2am at Club Posh(1713 E.Main St, Richmond,VA). Calling out all my people who enjoy that REAL music. We are also asking folks to throw on their 80's/90's gear to set the visual. (kangols, Levi's,shell-toes adidas, bamboo earrings, etc.). The 80's/90's gear is preferred but not recommended.

Ever since the age of 12, his musical talent grew. Carte’ stayed in the group for a few years until he decided to come out with a solo mix tape called "Carte’ All Day". He is beginning to work on his next mix tape, "Taylor 1 king". Carte’wants to reach out to people all over the world with his music and hopefully make it big in the music industry.

Zoo Tunez-A New Kids Show In The Making....

 I find myself looking at kids shows more often than I did when my first born, Elijah was young. My youngest daughter, Sakyiah LOVES the Yo Gabba Gabbas & Hip Hop Harrys of today. There are plenty of kid shows who use hip hop to catch the attention of our children. I think they are pretty neat. One thing missing from a GREAT hip hop kids show is a creator who actually knows hip hop. ( pointing to myself as i type this)

Now, kids need to learn more than just their ABC's & 123's. There are so many things that kids ages 2-8 can learn from hip hop kids shows other than how to rap or dance to a beat. Some of these shows need to take the kids on an adventure. There a bunch of issues going on in the world that we as parents need to bring to our kid's attention. So I am thinking about creating a kids show titled "Zoon Tunez."


Zoo Tunez is about certain animals in the New York Zoo who have special powers. There is a lion, an ape, an elephant & some monkeys who have the ability to transform to a hip hop group when no one is around.. Only a certain group of kids know the secrets of these zoo animals. Now, every episode,  Zoo Tunez & the kids help out other children who are in need pertaining to school work, chores, personal issues,etc. At the end of each episode, the Zoo Tunez perform a hip hop song to sum up their adventure(written & produced by me of course).

Now this is just an idea. I''m gonna do more research on the project, but I'm definitely making it a priority in 2012. Stay tune..#Go Live

My business associate, Runny Ray, suggested that we do a visual for the song "Let Go" because he stated, and I quote: "That song brings the fun back in hip hop." It is a remake of the classic song "Let the Bass Go" by The D.O.C. The D.O.C was one of the most influential west coast spitters in the 90's(hailing from Texas) His debut album, "No One Can Do It Better" hands down is in my top 20 of greatest hip hop albums of all time. Go Live Radio Beat Battle: Aug. 20, 2011

Calling out all producers. We are having a Beat Battle LIVE on Go Live Saturdays on August 20, 2011 from 6pm-8pm. We are doing it with a little twist. Now beat battles are normally done by the producers standing on stage while the DJ plays their beats to be judge. These producers do something creative either on stage or with their music to give them an edge in the competition. Some beat battles are judged by the audience in the building, especially during a tie breaker. More of the popular producers have better chances of winning or placing in beat battles more so than the newcomers. So, we want to make all of the beats in the competition anonymous. Let me explain. Lets say we have 6 different producers in the Go Live Radio Beat Battle. What we will do is play their beats live on air, but not tell the judges who produced the beats. The judges will vote on originality, creativity & industry potential by using a number scale for each. The number scale that the judges will use is 1-10. 30 points is the highest score that a producer can receive. If more than one producer receives 30 points, then those producers will win. There is no tie. The winner or winners will get to produce a track for a new hip hop group to be announce closer to the date of the beat battle.  Their will be more prizes for 2nd, 3rd & 4th place also. Our goal is to put each producer in the spotlight.

4080 Radio-Control Is Everything

     Well haven't heard?  There is a new online radio station broadcasting called 4080 Radio. I've spoke about 4080 a couple of blogs ago. It is now official. 4080 Radio is one of those stations that caters to an urban listening audience. 4080 holds a special place in my(lil roc's) heart because I came up with the name. I got it from a Q-tip line off the song "Check The Rhyme"( industry rule number 4080, record company people are shaaady.) I've been a huge Tribe Called Quest fan since their rise in hip hop, so it was obvious to base a station motivated by those pioneers.      I was just on one of my favorite hip hop sites and read about Common leaving G.O.O.D music(Kanye's Label) to sign a deal with Warner Bros. Wow, well I guess some artists feel that they need to be getting all of their money. Details below...Congrats Common!

Goodbye G.O.O.D. Music, hello Warner Bros.! Common signs a deal with Warner to release his next album.

It looks like Consequence may not be the only artist to jump ship from Kanye West's label. Now, one of G.O.O.D. Music's earliest and biggest successes Common may have left the label, recently signing to Warner Bros. Records.
According to a exclusive article from XXL, sources close to the Chi Town legend report that he has officially inked a deal to release his next album The Dreamer, The Believer with Warner Bros. There is no indiciation whether Common as signed a joint deal between Warner and 'Ye's label or whether he has officially left G.O.O.D. Music.
Since singing to Mr. West's imprint in 2004, Common has released three albums. His label debut Be led him to new career heights, garnering him four Grammy nominations and selling over 800,000 copies.
Earlier this week, Common released an EP titled The Pursuit with his newly founded super-group Cocaine 80s. The group also consists of fellow Chicago Hip Hop mainstay and lontime collaborator No I.D., Steve Wyreman, Rob Kinelski, Kevin Randolph, James Fauntleroy and Makeba, among others.

E.J.Dubb-Itz Time:Volume 1, Long Over Due

     Hip hop has been in my system since the early 80's. My older brother Jamal Rahman & his homie Jerelle Steele had a BIG influence on my love for the culture. It was Jamal who introduced me to 80's hiphop radio station WKIE hosted by El Bravador(legend in Richmond Hip hop). It was Jerelle who wrote my first rhyme that went like this:"Im kid death & i am the best, i pull all the girls especially Celeste(my adolescent girlfriend at the time.lol). If it wasn't for those two, the world would not know Lil Roc. period
     My father, the honorable Dawud Bilal Rahman, played the acoustic guitar my whole life. Jamal took a liking to the same instrument and taught himself how to play it. Jamal could play certain tunes on the guitar and translated that talent to a piano keyboard. When we were young, we use to sing and mimic old Motown songs that my father use to sing to us. We thought the music was so special back then. The movie,"The Five Heartbeats,"directed by Robert Townsend was something that my father wanted us to see so bad. He dropped us off at the movie theaters(alone) to see the classic. He figured that we need to see how the music business work before we took a jab at it.
     Lets fast forward it to the present. Pass the local success with The SupaFriendz. Pass the fall outs that all artists experience on the regular. Jamal, now the "beatmaker," as created music for some of the top artists in the Richmond,VA area for about 10 years now. Jamal realized that he needed to put out a compilation album to show the world what he can do. Any producer can loop a sample, but only a great producer can create magic. With the help of myself, Jamal is putting together a masterpiece of hip hop music with some of VA's top artists. There are alot of songs going through negotiations, so I'm not going to give out any featured artist's names at the present time.(that's another blog.)
